About Us

EARLY CAREER

I worked for Mercantile and General in Cheltenham from 1979 to 1993, initially as a Life Reinsurance Clerk and then moved into Computer Programming as a Cobol Programmer in 1987. I then moved on to Northern Star Insurance in Gloucester from 1993 to 2001, initially as a Cobol Programmer but then transferred to IT Support in 1995. From 2001 to 2010 I worked for DMS, a Direct Marketing Agency in Cheltenham. I started out as a Senior IT Support Engineer and progressed to IT Manager in 2004.

RECENT CAREER

For the last 7 years I have worked for Northstar in Portishead, travelling down from Churchdown each day. I started as a Senior IT Support Engineer and moved on to be Helpdesk Manager. I was responsible for looking after around 50 Businesses mainly in the Bristol area but some as far afield as Newcastle. You will note the similarity in name with one of my former Companies. The Managing Director of Northstar used to work with me at Northern Star although he advised me the similarity in names is purely coincidental.

HOBBIES

I have always had a keen interest in road going motorcycles and motorcycle racing. I competed in Motocross during the 1980's but injuries soon caused me to revert to road riding only. Although I'm still very interested in MotoGP my main interest now is two stroke motorcycles from the 1980's and early 1990's. I am currently involved with the Western Locomotive Association and play an active role in keeping two Class 52 Western's running in Preservation on the Severn Valley Railway. They are D1013 Western Ranger and D1062 Western Courier. My latest role is in Sales and I can usually be found raising funds at the Severn Valley Railway or at events on other Heritage Railways throughout the UK.
